Why do people pay ridiculous prices for name brand clothing, purses, and shoes?
Is the quality of name-brand clothing really so much better that you’re willing to pay more for it, or is it more of a status symbol? From what I understand about the very wealthy, their clothing may be designer, but they would never advertise it on their clothing; it’s considered tacky. Is a Tommy Hilfiger shirt worth $40? What can it do that a $10 shirt from K-mart can’t, other than bear a logo? My husband used to work in a shoe and leather repair shop, and he said that Gucci was actually some of the most cheaply-made stuff that came in there. And I also wonder how some people justify spending $600 or more on Louis Vuitton (sp?) handbags. It’s their money and their prerogative, but even if I were rich, I couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money. I’m still carrying the purse I bought on clearance for $7 at Old Navy five years ago! No offense to the people that do this – I’m just curious why you do! 
There are levels of quality in clothing, I personally don’t like K-Mart or Wal-Mart clothing it is very poor quality and does not last long and the stains don’t come out as well. But there are higher quality of clothing for example Michael Jordan, his clothing can last for years and wash well and stay constructed. Status symbols are what they are but clothing really is about quality.
