San Francisco’s Chinatown is special because it’s so concentrated and the streets are very narrow. If you’ve been to China, it’s not too far from the real deal which makes it a really cool destination because the food is real and it’s cheap. If you do visit SF Chinatown, visit the little alleys like Waverley and Ross. Some of the neatest things can be seen and heard, the constant clatter of mah jong tiles being scrambled, the roar of a drum beat of a martial arts dance troupe practicing, the smell of fortune cookies being made…etc.
Years ago, the police cracked down on fake handbags, weapons, and other illegal items. Since then, it has been harder to buy things like switchblades, butterfly knives, and knock off designer stuffs.
